Get Involved at JBI Library

Over the years, we've had hundreds of volunteers of all ages and professions, both on-site at JBI’s office and remotely. Thanks to their efforts, we’ve been able to record thousands of audiobooks, communicate regularly with our patrons, spread the word about JBI across the U.S., and much more.

Become a Recording Studio Volunteer

Come to JBI’s recording studio at our NYC office to narrate, direct, or perform quality control for our audiobooks! Each of these roles is essential. Our narrators record audiobooks while our directors monitor the recording, providing edits on-the-go. Then, our audiobooks are sent to quality control, where our volunteers review the complete recording.

Call Our Patrons

Are you a people-person who can engage with JBI Library community members directly over the phone? Make calls to our patrons from JBI’s NYC offices or from your home to ask if they need any accessible books, let them know about our community programs, or to simply say hello!

Become a JBI Ambassador

Want to spread the word about JBI in your local community? Become a JBI Ambassador to raise awareness about the variety of free services JBI Library provides. Outreach can be phone calling, emailing, and/or in-person site visits. We’re looking for ambassadors from across the U.S. and globally. Ambassadorship is great for patrons, groups, and young people looking for a service or b’nei mitzvah project!

More Ways to Get Involved

JBI is also recruiting volunteers to help with:

  • Leading book groups and programs (in-person or virtual)
  • Proofreading (Hebrew and English)
  • Connecting with our Russian and Yiddish-speaking patrons (in their own language)
  • Recording blessings or other liturgical music
  • Formatting documents for braille transcription
  • Marketing and graphic design
  • Producing audiobooks (narration, direction, and quality control)

There are so many needs and opportunities at JBI Library. It seems to me that there's a place for anyone who wants to help and celebrate the ability to make Jewish life accessible in this way.
